The Chiss Supreme Admiral Ja'fosk of the Chiss Ascendancy's Defense Hierarchy Council once belonged to a family of the Ascendancy. He was stripped of his ties to his family when he became a flag officer.[1]

By 19 BBY,[2] Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet Senior Captain Irizi'ar'alani, core name "Ziara," was promoted to the rank of commodore by Ja'fosk, severing her ties to the Irizi family and adopting the name "Ar'alani." Immediately after the ceremony, Ar'alani privately speculated that Ja'fosk was remembering his promotion to flag officer and the loss of his own family.[1]

Behind the scenes

Ja'fosk's original family was mentioned in the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
