A flag officer was a position held in a faction's naval branch.[3] In the Chiss Ascendancy, a flag officer was an officer including and above the rank of Commodore. Upon promotion to flag rank, a Chiss officer was stripped of ties to their Chiss family in a ceremony in which the Supreme Admiral declared "the Ascendancy is your family." This step was introduced to ensure that family politics did not interfere with the decisions of the military.[1]
In the starfleet of the Galactic Empire, flags officers were (from higher to lower order) Admiral of the Fleet, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, Admiral, Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral and Commodore.[3] Admiral Kassius Konstantine was described as a perfect model for an Imperial Navy flag officer.[2]
