In 1 BBY,[3] a squad of at least twelve Imperial stormtroopers were deployed[1] on the planet[4] Tatooine. Given orders by a commander and led by JM-909[1] and another unit leader,[2] the squad at one point put down a dewback mount they considered "spent," though they still had at least three available. Six members of the squad were killed by a band of Tusken Raiders. JM-909 was the sole survivor of the incident and was found and nursed back to health by the hermit and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. After returning to the commander, JM-909 was berated and told to clean himself up.[1]
Behind the scenes
JM-909's squad appeared in Obi-Wan 5, the fifth issue of Star Wars: Obi-Wan, written by Christopher Cantwell and published by Marvel Comics[1] on September 14, 2022.[5]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Ultimate Star Wars states that unit leaders in the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps wore orange pauldrons. As one stormtrooper other than JM-909 seen in Obi-Wan 5 wears an orange pauldron, it can be inferred that they, alongside JM-909, were the unit leader of their squad.

A Tale from Obi-Wan's Youngling Days and More from Marvel's May 2022 Star Wars Comics – Exclusive Preview on StarWars.com (backup link) establishes that the frame story in Obi-Wan 1 takes place during Obi-Wan Kenobi's final days on Tatooine, meaning it is set soon before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which days before A New Hope, to 1 BBY. Therefore, the frame story of Obi-Wan must occur in 1 BBY.
