This article is about the J20 electroscope. You may be looking for the J19 electroscope.

J20 electroscope was a feature on Pyre's blaster and F-11ABA heavy blaster cannon. Sith Jetpack Trooper ST-A1215 utilized a F-11ABA with a J20 attached.

Description

J20 electroscopes were adjustabled electroscopes. The scopes were equipped on top of F-11ABA heavy blaster cannons, with sensors and a transmitter[2] on the side of the blaster cannon[3] to create[2] a wireless[3] data link to a helmet. This data was intended to provide troopers with every possible advantage in combat.[2] Commander Pyre of the First Order had a J20 electroscope attached to his personal F-11D blaster rifle[1]—a model of blaster rifle that normally utilized the J19 electroscope[2]—for better focus and increased zoom.[1]

History

Pyre utilizes the J20 electroscope on his blaster.

Pyre utilizes the J20 electroscope on his blaster.

By 34 ABY,[4] Commander Pyre of the First Order utilized a personal electrum finished F-11D blaster rifle, along with an electrum finished J20 electroscope.[1] In that year[5] during the First Order's confrontation with the residents on the Colossus refueling station on[6] the Mid Rim[7] planet Castilon, Pyre and Agent Tierny of the First Order Security Bureau attempted to escort First Order recruit Tamara Ryvora off the space station. When the Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono confronted the group from afar, attempting to sway Ryvora away from the First Order, the commander took aim at the spy with his J20 electroscope, only for Tierny to stop him.[6]

Later into 34 ABY,[8] some First Order stormtroopers at the First Order re-education facility on the planet Batuu were outfitted with F-11ABA heavy blaster cannons, which were equipped with J20 electroscopes.[9] In 35 ABY,[10] Sith Jetpack Troopers of the Sith Eternal cult, including ST-A1215,[3] utilized F-11ABA heavy blaster cannons[11] with J20 electroscopes equipped and linked to their helmets.[3]

Behind the scenes

The J20 electroscope first appeared in "The Children from Tehar,"[12] the sixth episode of the first season of the Star Wars Resistance animated television series which premiered on November 4, 2018.[13] The scope was first previewed earlier in the year on August 17 in the first trailer for the series, which was posted on StarWars.com and the official Disney YouTube channel.[14] It was then identified as a "J20 adjustable electroscope" in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition[15] and later clarified as simply "J20 electroscope" in the reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary.[3] The reference books released October 4[16] and December 20, 2019 respectively.[17]

Concept art for Pyre's blaster, which included the scope, was completed by[18] Art Director[19] Amy Beth Christenson on February 28, 2017 and featured in the accompanying episode guide for "The Children from Tehar." The model was sourced from Phasma's blaster, with only the color being changed to gold.[18] Concept design for the F-11ABA heavy blaster cannon, which incorporated the scope, was completed by Matthew Savage for Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker,[20] the final film of the sequel trilogy which released in 2019.[21]
