The J-10 dual blaster cannon was a model of blaster cannon used by the Separatist Droid Army during the Clone Wars. Essentially a pair of scaled-up reciprocating E-5 blaster rifles, it was rarely deployed due to its many drawbacks. During the Galactic Civil War, Alliance to Restore the Republic outposts were commonly equipped with pristine J-10s found in abandoned Separatist weapon caches to cover evacuations.

Description

A Separatist design, the J-10 dual blaster cannon was essentially a pair of scaled-up reciprocating E-5 blaster rifles,[1] which were commonly used by battle droid infantry.[2] The E-5's design scaled poorly, however, with its minor heating issues becoming a major problem for the J-10.[1] The dual blaster cannon glitchy galven-pattern programming often led to power fluctuations.[2] In addition, inferior-quality materials contributed to poor accuracy,[1] with imperfections in the J-10's focusing crystals causing shots to drift without regular maintenance.[2]

History

The J-10 used by the Separatist Droid Army[2] during the Clone Wars.[1] Like most of their equipment, it was produced on unregulated, droid-run assembly lines in factories where quantity was more important than quality.[2] It was rarely deployed due to its many drawbacks, with scavengers frequently having discovered pristine caches of J-10s,[1] as did Alliance to Restore the Republic scouts while searching for new locations to establish hidden bases during the Galactic Civil War.[2] Many J-10s found their ways into the hands of the Rebel Alliance[1] and became common in their outposts,[2] where they could be deployed along trenches to cover evacuations in the event of discovery by the Galactic Empire.[1] Alliance technicians often opted to replace faulty J-10s instead of fixing them.[2]

Behind the scenes

The J-10 dual blaster cannon first appeared in "Innocents of Ryloth,"[3] the nineteenth episode of the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which aired on March 6, 2009.[4]
