The family crest of the Chiss Ascendancy nation's Irizi family—one of the nation's Nine Ruling Families—was displayed on the shoulder patches of Irizi family officers in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet.[1] Before 19 BBY,[2] Irizi'ar'alani, core name "Ziara," was promoted to the rank of flag officer, severing her ties to the Irizi family. As such, she no longer bore the Irizi crest on her shoulder patch, instead wearing the Chiss Ascendancy's symbol.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Irizi family crest first appeared in the novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy,[1] published on September 1, 2020. On July 8 of that year, an excerpt of the novel and a promotional image was released illustrating the crests of the Nine Ruling Families. However, it is not specified which crest belongs to the Irizi family.[3]
