An ion-flux cooling system was a type of heat sink that was developed for TIE series starfighters.[1] By 3 ABY,[2] copies of the military-grade hardware began being manufactured to improve the efficiency of ship-mounted laser cannons.[1] The system continued to be used in TIE/sf space superiority fighters.[3]
In 3 ABY,[2] the Pyke Jinnjo Blorgh gave Kay Vess ion-flux cooling system after she helped him leave the Crimson Dawn.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Ion-flux cooling system was first mentioned in the 2015 reference book, Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Incredible Cross-Sections written by Jason Fry. The system later appeared as a "passive system" ship upgrade in the "A Pirate's Fortune" expansion for the Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws,[1] which was released on May 15, 2025.[4] The upgrade is award to the player for completing the "Jinnjo's Legacy" intel quest. When equipped the upgrade reduces the heat build up of the player's ship weapons.[1]
