The ion encumbrance system was a unique system fitted to the Vana Sage's starfighter, the Guardian Mantis.[1] The system launched small ion-enabled "tags", projectiles which attached to enemy vessels and caused an ionization effect which disabled their deflector shields.[2] They could be used in conjunction with nano-missiles as a guidance system.[3]
