"To Grand Vizier Mas Amedda from Lieutenant Enric Pryde of Steadfast. Temporarily billeted to Star Destroyer Impervious on inspection duty to Zee-Nine."
―Enric Pryde[1]

The Impervious was an Imperial-class Star Destroyer in the Imperial Navy during the Galactic Civil War. Lieutenant Enric Pryde of the ISD Steadfast was temporarily posted to the Star Destroyer between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, during which time he conducted inspection duty in the Hutt Space settlement Zee-Nine City Seven. The city's Imperial garrison was understaffed and underfunded, making it a prime target for the Rebel Alliance. After the Alliance launched an attack on the garrison, Pryde witnessed several explosions on the Impervious's hull before watching the Star Destroyer crash into nearby mountains, destroying it.

Description

An Imperial-class Star Destroyer, the Impervious[1] measured 1,600 meters long.[2] The Star Destroyer was equipped with three Destroyer-I ion engines, four emergency-use Gemon-4 ion engines, two deflector shield generator domes, and a communications tower.[3]

History

"Contact the Impervious! Tell them we're under attack!"
"I am attempting to connect, sir, but I don't believe they'll be answering."

During the Galactic Civil War, the Impervious served as part of the Imperial Navy.[1] Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,[4] Imperial Lieutenant Enric Pryde of[1] the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer[5] Steadfast was temporarily billeted to the Impervious. While serving aboard the vessel, Pryde was assigned to inspection duty in Zee-Nine City Seven,[1] a settlement located within Hutt Space.[6] Despite the city's prior use by pirate groups such as the Droid Crush Pirates of Bestoon, its Imperial garrison remained understaffed and underfunded, making it a prime target for the Rebel Alliance.[1]

While conducting[1] his[7] inspection duty, Pryde had discovered multiple security breaches and captured over a dozen insurgent rebels. He had also made several transmissions to Imperial Grand Vizier Mas Amedda, reporting on the situation in the city and requesting troops and supplies. However, when relaying one such request to an RA-7 protocol droid while in the city, a rebel T-65 X-wing starfighter caused an explosion next to Pryde. The lieutenant demanded that the RA-7 contact the Impervious to alert them to the attack; however, the droid reported that while it was attempting to connect, it did not believe the Star Destroyer would be answering.[1]

As this happened, Pryde looked up to see that the Impervious's hull had several explosions on it, and the vessel had begun to tilt downward. It then collided with the mountains outside of Zee-Nine City Seven, destroying the Star Destroyer, which received a cheer from the rebels. Pryde was subsequently captured by the rebel M.A.R. Corps. The burning wreckage of the Impervious remained in the mountains twelve hours later, when Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader arrived to free Pryde and take control of the rebels.[1]

Commanders and crew

"And we apparently can't expect any support from our superiors."
―Enric Pryde, following the destruction of the Impervious[1]

Lieutenant Enric Pryde served as a temporary crewmember on the Impervious. During his time conducting inspecting duty at Zee-Nine City Seven, the officer sent several requests to Grand Vizier Mas Amedda for more troops and supplies for the Imperial garrison. Upon witnessing the destruction of the Impervious, Pryde outwardly exclaimed but quickly took control of the situation, ordering his troops to form a perimeter.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Impervious appeared in the current Star Wars canon in the forty-second issue of the 2020 comic-book series Star Wars: Darth Vader. The issue was written by Greg Pak, illustrated by Adam Gorham,[1] and published by Marvel Comics on January 3, 2024.[8] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Impervious was first mentioned in "Slaying Dragons," a short story written by Angela Phillips for the ninth issue of West End Games' Star Wars Adventure Journal. The journal was published in February 1996.[9]
