The Imperial media badge was a badge[1] worn by members of the Imperial Press Corps,[3] a branch of the Galactic Empire's Ministry of Information dedicated to delivering propaganda and misinformation to the general public through news and media outlets.[4] HoloNet News journalist Alton Kastle[5] wore an Imperial media badge when conducting news broadcasts.[6]

The badge was rectangular and light gray, with a central, dark-gray[2] Imperial Press Corps insignia.[4] It was worn with a gray-blue Imperial officer's uniform, positioned on the top left side of the tunic. The badge took the place of the rank insignia plaque worn by members of the Imperial Military.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Imperial media badge first appeared, albeit through a hologram, in "Call to Action,"[6] the thirteenth episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels. The episode first aired on February 9, 2015.[7] It was unnamed in the episode[6] but received identified as the Imperial media badge in the episode's accompanying episode guide, which was published on StarWars.com.[1]
