- "Enclosed is my revised manuscript of the Catalog of Intelligent Life in the Galaxy, with changes as specified by Lieutenant Pandur. The lieutenant's suggestions greatly assisted me in my research processes, and I sincerely hope that you will find the expanded information to be of value."
- ―Obo Rin, in a message to Major Vontenn, Imperial Liaison Officer of Sentientology Studies
The Imperial Liaison Officer of Sentientology Studies was a bureaucratic position of the Galactic Empire. At some point during the Galactic Civil War, it was held by Major Vontenn. While the officer was holding the position, the sentientologist Obo Rin, whom the Empire had commissioned to author a reference work—the Catalog of Intelligent Life in the Galaxy—detailing the various sentient species of the galaxy, sent them a message. In it, Obo Rin included their manuscript of a revised edition of the work, and in[1] his[2] missive, the researcher expressed his hope that Vontenn would find the expanded work useful. In the message, Obo Rin also asked the officer to pass on his condolences to the family of Major Herrit,[1] an Imperial Intelligence officer[2] who had perished on a mission[1] aimed to further benefit Obo Rin's research.[2]
Behind the scenes
The position of Imperial Liaison Officer of Sentientology Studies was mentioned in Chuck Truett's 1994 Second Edition of[1] Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a 1989 sourcebook authored by Troy Denning for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[2]
