The Imperial General Staff was a command-level organization within the Galactic Empire consisting of high-ranking Imperial officers. Shortly prior to the rescue of Princess Leia Organa from the Death Star in 0 BBY, members included Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, General Cassio Tagge, and Admiral Conan Antonio Motti, and others.[1]

An official military commander, Admiral Kendal Ozzel was appointed to lead Darth Vader's Death Squadron, a selection that appeased the high-ranking members of the Imperial General Staff.[2]
