Iannos Tyrek was a male Human scientist in the employ of the reconstituted Sith Empire until he defected to the Galactic Republic during the Cold War.
Biography
While stationed on Balmorra, Tyrek grew to dislike his work in the Empire and the lack of creative freedom within his occupation. To this end, he chose to defect to the Galactic Republic altogether and was intent on focusing his efforts in developing medical technology as opposed to weapons. Eventually, he was found by a young Sith who was apprenticed to Darth Zash, who killed his Balmorran Resistance protectors, subdued him, and took him back to the Imperial Base in Sobrik. There, he developed a serum that gave the apprentice the Colicoid's immunity to toxic waste, which was necessary for them to retrieve an artifact of Tulak Hord in a contaminated vault. After receiving the serum, the apprentice killed Tyrek for treason.[1]
Behind the scenes
Iannos Tyrek is a character encountered in the Sith Inquisitor class story in the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.
If playing as a light-side Inquisitor, the player can persuade Tyrek to go to Sobrik by promising that he can return to the Republic once he develops the Colicoid serum for them. When the player comes to collect the serum from him, they can choose to follow through with the promise of allowing him to return to the Republic, authorizing a shuttle to take Tyrek to a destination where he can safely reach the Republic lines. During this interaction, Tyrek becomes increasingly baffled with the Inquisitor, and recommends that they come with him to the Republic, though they’ll only be able to decline.
