- "What other types of droids do you have in operation here?"
"Standard protocol types as well as CCLs, IW-37s, HV-7s, and other load lifters." - ―Ahsoka Tano and Myn Weaver
The IW-37 pincer loader droid was a model of class 5 labor droid produced by Cybot Galactica for the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars.
Description
It was designed to deal with sensitive, potentially explosive loads, particularly live military ordnance. It worked in circumstances that required the brute strength and indestructibility of a binary loadlifter, but with a high degree of subtle accuracy when handling an object. The droids primary feature was a terrifying looking pincer arm that could operate with the most delicate touch.[1]
The grasping arm, which was centrally positioned on the front of the droid's chassis, could reach into small compartments to load or retrieve missiles and ammunition canisters, or recover ordnance or fuel cells from a wreckage to make it safe. Should anything explode, the IW-37's[1] blaster-resistant durasteel armor[2] meant it could generally take the hit and keep working.[1] The droids chassis had a rechargeable battery module on its back and also featured two large flat-footed legs.[2]
History
The Open Circle Fleet utilized IW-37 droids, with its emblem marked at the front.[2]
Several of these droids were working in a shipyard on the planet Corellia. The yard had been controlled by the Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth during the reign of the Galactic Empire, but had been taken over by the New Republic[3] by around 9 ABY.[4]
However, the facility continued to be used by Elsbeth in secret, causing New Republic General Hera Syndulla and former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano to investigate it. During the investigation, Tano questioned Regional Supervisor Myn Weaver about the droids used in the facility, and Weaver mentioned the IW-37s along with several others. After Elsbeth's continued use of the shipyard was then uncovered, many of the staff were then arrested by the New Republic.[3]

SWCC 2019: 9 Things We Learned from The Mandalorian Panel on StarWars.com (backup link) establishes that Star Wars: The Mandalorian is set about five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 4 ABY. Therefore, the events of The Mandalorian must have taken place around 9 ABY. As Star Wars (@starwars) on Twitter (post): "Ahsoka, a new Original Series, starring @RosarioDawson and set within the timeline of @TheMandalorian, is coming to @DisneyPlus." (backup link) states that Ahsoka is set in the same time period as The Mandalorian, it must also be set around 9 ABY.
