This article covers a subject from a Star Wars: Visions story that Lucasfilm declared is set in an alternate history within a reimagined galaxy.

An IH unit[2] was a piece of technology that allowed for objects to be heated.[1] A rectangular box with panels on the sides and various components on top, including a cylindrical piece, the device included a circular grate with multiple small round openings in the center and an outer ring with protrusions. Two thin rods extended upward.[3] When objects were placed on top of it, the IH unit flashed red underneath.[1]

Two decades after the Imperial unification, the Sullustan shopkeep at Tono's Teahouse on the planet Genbara[4] owned a GNK power droid with an IH unit attached to the top.[1] When a nearby village was attacked by Bandit Troopers, a former Sith known as the Ronin used the power droid's IH unit to boil water in a kettle and asked the shopkeep to repair his damaged astromech droid R5-D56 by the time the water boiled.[4]

Behind the scenes

An IH unit first appeared in "The Duel," a non-canon short film released as part of the first volume of the Star Wars: Visions series, produced by Kamikaze Douga, and released on Disney+[1] on September 22, 2021.[5] Originally designed by Takashi Okazaki, it was first identified by name in concept art included in the episode for "The Duel" contained in the featurette series Star Wars: Visions Filmmaker Focus,[2] released on Disney+ on the same day as the short film.[6] A more detailed view of the same concept art piece was included in Zack Davisson's 2022 reference book The Art of Star Wars: Visions.[3]
