Hunters of the Outer Rim was a competitive sporting show hosted within the Grand Arena on the planet Vespaara that saw various warriors from across the galaxy engage in combat. Contestants, known as "Hunters", fought in teams to earn both fortune and glory while cheered on by enthusiastic audiences. During the New Republic Era,[1] the tournament was partnered with the Outer Rim Sports Network and broadcast galaxy-wide by the ORSN on the HoloNet.[2]

It hosted a revolving cast of several individuals, including the dark side warrior Rieve and the Mandalorian stalwart Aran Tal, as "hunters."[1] Tal joined the competition in 9 ABY,[3] and Rieve joined in that same year.[4]

Behind the scenes

"Professional wrestling was one of the influences for the bombast of the Arena on Vespaara and the larger-than-life personalities of its Hunters. In the game, our Hunters compete on a show called Hunters of the Outer Rim, which is both a live competition and a show broadcast within the galaxy. It's exciting live entertainment, like podracing."
―Design Director Scott Warner[5]

Hunters of the Outer Rim first appeared in the canon video game Star Wars: Hunters, which was developed by NaturalMotion's BossAlien and published by Zynga on November 16, 2021, as a soft-launch to select countries,[6] before the global release on June 4, 2024.[7] During an interview, Design Director Scott Warner revealed that many elements, such as arena personalities and varying arena environments, from Hunters of the Outer Rim were influenced by professional wrestling.[5]

  4. Hunters: Battle for the Arena takes place after Aran Tal joined the Hunters of the Outer Rim, dated to 9 ABY by Star Wars: Timelines. As Battle for the Arena features Rieve join the Hunters, it takes place before Star Wars: The Secrets of the Bounty Hunters, and the in-universe book is set before The Mandalorian Season Three. Season Three takes place in 9 ABY per the reasoning here, therefore Battle for the Arena must be set around the same year
