- «You mean shortsighted, like they don't see very good?»
«I mean shortsighted like they have the brains of a hop-toad.» - ―Che'ri and Thalias
Hop-toads were a type of toad known to the Chiss species in the Unknown Regions.[1] Around 19 BBY,[2] when explaining to the sky-walker navigator Che'ri why some caregivers had to leave the sky-walkers they cared for, caregiver Mitth'ali'astov, core name "Thalias," stated it could be because of "short-sighted idiots" in charge of the process. When Che'ri failed to understand what Thalias meant by short-sighted, the caregiver instead metaphorically explained that the short-sighted people had the brains of a hop-toad.[1]
Behind the scenes
Hop-toads were mentioned in the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
