Homing torpedoes were small projectile missiles, with a bigger warhead replaced with a guiding system. It made homing torpedoes less dangerous, but more maneuverable.

They were very useful on slow starships, such as freighters.

Behind the scenes

In the video game Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo, released in 2000, players may upgrade their proton torpedoes by finding an upgrade in the Borvo the Hutt mission. As acquiring the upgrade is necessary for 100% game completion, this article assumes the player did so.
