Biography
- "To be honest, I'm a little confused. I know the smuggler captain and I can trust him. But everyone else just blames each other, and I don't know what to do."
- ―Tearfin, to a spacer
In 1 ABY,[2] Captain Himfan was present on Tatooine, visiting several cities on the planet. At the same time, a bounty hunter named Tearfin traveled to the planet. The bounty hunter was seeking a smuggler who stole a crate of valuable equipment. As the crate had a transponder, she easily traced her mark to Tatooine. However, the thief found the transponder and turned it off not long after Tearfin arrived on the planet. The bounty hunter then located Himfan and a group of smugglers, suspecting one of them of being her mark, but she was not able to identify the thief. Besides the smuggler captain, the group included five other smugglers, namely Parugga, Rh'klin, Barosk, Klaphini and D'lonis. Among them, Tearfin only knew Captain Himfan and she was convinced that she could trust him. The bounty hunter interrogated Himfan and the other smugglers, but could not determine who was innocent or guilty, basically because all of the smugglers simply blamed each other. A spacer seeking to become a Hero of Tatooine eventually came along to help Tearfin. After interrogating all the smugglers, the spacer finally identified the thief and confirmed that the smuggler captain was not the culprit. The spacer later informed Tearfin and was awarded the Mark of Intellect for the successful investigation.[1]
Behind the scenes
Every possible depictions of Himfan
Himfan was a non-player character (NPC) in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] Because Himfan spawned under the generic "smuggler" template, the appearance of this NPC was randomized under one of eight possible depictions. Although his gender and appearance were randomized during each server reset, he systematically appeared as a Human and quest dialogues identified him as a male.[3]
Himfan was added to the game as part of the "Hero of Tatooine" questline,[3] released with "Publish 9" on June 29, 2004.[5] This NPC periodically spawned in random cities across Tatooine, along with Tearfin and the five other smugglers. Players taking part in the "Intellect" segment of the "Hero of Tatooine" had to interrogate Himfan and the other smugglers to determine which one was Tearfin's mark. The identity of the culprit varied among the six smugglers but Himfan each time the quest was reset.[3] With the release of the "Publish 24," on October 18, 2005, Himfan and the five other smugglers were given proper names[6] to replace randomly generated names.[3]
The "Hero of Tatooine" questline was extensively revamped upon the introduction of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005[6] but the "Intellect" segment was not altered.[1]

Star Wars Galaxies (post-NGE) — Quest: "The Mark of the Hero" on Tatooine
- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
