- "You have done great things in the name of the light. I am honored to be in your presence. Take my Mark of the Hero and let it remind you of your cause. Do not forget why you fight. Good luck, young warrior."

Hero of Tatooine was a title bestowed by a Rodian hermit upon an anonymous spacer who demonstrated heroism while performing several tasks to help the people of Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War.[1]
History
- "It is my belief that the galaxy is in dire need of heroes--those individuals who have demonstrated beyond doubt their dedication to the path of light. You are brash and young, but perhaps one day you will become a hero and bring light to this darkened place."
- ―A Rodian hermit
In 1 ABY,[2] a spacer who explored a cave on Tatooine encountered a old Rodian hermit living there. As both agreed that the Galactic Empire had brought darkness to the galaxy, the hermit proposed four specific tasks to the spacer that would allow them to become a hero through helping the inhabitants of Tatooine.[1]
The spacer then completed the four tasks, displaying intelligence to deduce who was the target of a puzzled bounty hunter, honor by refusing to be corrupted by pirates, courage by killing a ferocious bladeback boar, and altruism by assisting a moisture farmer by rescuing his family from the Sennex slavers. After all tasks were completed, the adventurer returned to the hermit who declared them the Hero of Tatooine. He awarded them with four "trophies" — the Mark of Intellect, the Mark of Honor, the Mark of Courage, and the Mark of Altruism — that formed a unique spherical sculpture, and the Mark of the Hero, a ring which was believed to be able to bring its bearer back from death.[1]

Star Wars Galaxies (post-NGE) — Quest: "The Mark of the Hero" on Tatooine
- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
