A helicite was a twisted crystal composed of gypsum.[1] Helicites were found on Mimban[1] and Tatooine.[2] Owen Lars' graying hair looked like gypsum helicites.[3]

Helicite was first mentioned in the 1976 novelization of the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster.[3] It first appeared in the 1978 novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye, also written by Foster.[1]
