"There was this trooper from the Executor that said there was some female Darktrooper designated HX-138. I thought he was just pulling our leg."
―A stormtrooper, to a spacer[1]

HX-138 was a female Human who served as a stormtrooper of the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War.

Biography

"The only location I know coordinates to is a hold out camp of Stormtrooper 'Ims' at the Research and Prison Facility. Ground zero to the virus."
"Ims?"
"Immunes. There is a small possibility of being naturally immune to the virus."
Trig Longo and a spacer[2]

After the Battle of Yavin, HX-138 was stationed at the Imperial Research and Prison Facility on the planet Dathomir, along with fellow stromtroopers KD-121 and GT-643. She used to wear a black Imperial Spec Ops Officer armor and was referred as a Darktrooper.[1]

In 1 ABY,[3] an accident took place in the Imperial Research and Prison Facility.[1] The Blackwing virus that was studied there escaped containment and decimated most of the people in the area, turning them into starving undead creatures. In response, the Galactic Empire promptly established a Quarantine Zone to contain the infection.[4] HX-138, GT-643 and KD-121 were part of[1] a contingent of stormtroopers who appeared to be immunized to the virus,[2] and commanded by HX-138. The stormtroopers survived the outbreak but were trapped in the Quarantine Zone like other survivors. The stormtroopers and the refugees created a makeshift camp, designated as Camp Epsilon, in order to to repel the regular assaults of the zombies and try to live in safety while waiting for an evacuation.[1] Those other survivors included the former prisoner Zsu Val[5], the technician Sogan Varga,[6] the mechanic Nils Cridmeen,[7] and the Inquisitor Klex Fulgor.[8] In fact, Camp Epsilon was very unsafe since it was located in the courtyard of the Imperial Research and Prison Facility, the place where lived the most dangerous undeads.[1] However, the camp was established around a Lambda-class shuttle, the last starship in the area that was not destroyed during the outbreak. The ship was damaged and unable to fly but Nils Cridmeen and HX-138 expected to fix it in order to allow the survivors to escape the Quarantine Zone.[7]

A group of spacers visited Camp Epsilon during their journey in the Quarantine Zone. They assisted HX-138 and the stormtroopers in rescuing some survivors[1] and finding parts to fix the shuttle.[7] The spacers later left Camp Epsilon to enter the Imperial Research and Prison Facility in order to recover a sample of the Blackwing virus.[8] The spacers survived to their mission and finally came back to Camp Epsilon. In the meantime, Nils Cridmeen was able to fix the Lambda-class shuttle. The refugees of Camp Epsilon and the spacers eventually escaped the Quarantine Zone altogether with the repaired shuttle.[9]

Behind the scenes

HX-138 was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[10] HX-138 was added to the game with the "Game Update 14," a.k.a. the "Death Troopers" update, released on October 12, 2009.[11]

HX-138's name was likely a reference to THX 1138.

  3. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
