The Gunninga Gap was an ancient and mysterious place, lost deep within the Unknown Regions of the Galaxy. The interstellar space of the Gap blossomed with drifting moon trees,[1] among which the followers of a death cult known as the Knell of Muspilli[3] had found their sanctuary. The cultists believed they possessed the power to summon apocalyptic deities from the realm beyond shadows.[3] To achieve this, they transcribed the Taurannik Codex, hoping to perform a ritual and open the Gap’s spatial fissure.[4]
Many millennia later, during the era of the Galactic Empire, the dark side adept Cronal explored the Unknown Regions, seeking knowledge that would grant him ultimate power. Within the Gunninga Gap, Cronal discovered scraps of the Codex, destroyed long ago during the ancient cataclysm,[1] but he encountered no followers of the Knell of Muspilli, which might have indicated that the place had long since fallen into desolation.
Behind the scenes
The idea for the creation of the Gunninga Gap was inspired by Norse mythology, in which there existed Ginnungagap, the primordial void and cosmic abyss.
