The warriors of the Grysk species' military used explosive armor to protect their bodies and destroy them when the armor's self-destruct mechanism was activated—by the wearer or their death—so that their opponents could not study them.[1] Around 18 BBY,[2] the Grysk soldiers on the Unknown Regions planet Sunrise wore the armor during a battle against the Chiss Ascendancy and the Paccian Governance. The armor's explosions killed many Grysk soldiers and, as a result, the battle was over quickly.[1]

The explosive armor was mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final volume in Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
