"If I had not shapeshifted into a fire-resistant Gregonian salamander, I would have been killed."
―Mammon Hoole, to Zak Arranda[1]

The Gregonian salamander was a type of fire-resistant salamander from[1] the Expansion Region's[3] Gregonia system.[1][2] In 1 ABY,[4] the Shi'ido geneticist Mammon Hoole attempted to trap the bounty hunter Boba Fett in the engine room of his starship, the Shroud. However, Fett fired a wrist rocket from his suit's wrist rocket launcher at the ship's ion drive, which caused an explosion. In response to the flames, Hoole shape-shifted into a Gregonian salamander. Afterward, Hoole told his adoptive son, Zak Arranda, that had he not morphed into a Gregonian salamander, the flames would have killed him.[1]

Behind the scenes

Gregorian salamanders were mentioned in the 1998 novel Galaxy of Fear: The Hunger, written by John Whitman as the twelfth and final installment of the Star Wars: Galaxy of Fear series.[1]
