The Grand Stairway was a gray, curved staircase located in a tower that rose from the concessions concourses, a building that made up part of the podracing Grand Arena in the city of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine. The staircase passed through at least three floors and ended on the tower's top floor, where private deal-making rooms were located beside the top of the stairs.[1]
The Grand Stairway was a popular place to spot famous podracers, and a number of individuals were traversing the staircase during the Boonta Eve Classic podrace[1] held in 32 BBY.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the Grand Stairway was mentioned in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations. It was part of material reprinted[1] from the 2000 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, which was written by Kristin Lund, illustrated by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen, and marked the first mention of the staircase in the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3]
