Gonmore

Gonmore was a Mid Rim planet located in the Irishi sector and on the Entralla Route hyperlane. At one point a part of the New Republic, by 22 ABY it hosted a sector clearinghouse for the smuggling organization led by Talon Karrde. That year, the smuggler Jerf Huxley unsuccessfully attempted to force Karrde's former second-in-command, Mara Jade Skywalker, to arrange for a large sum of money to be transferred to him from the Gonmore clearinghouse as severance pay for Karrde ending the employment of Huxley and his own smuggling group.

Description

Gonmore was a terrestrial^[4] planet^[5] situated in the Gonmore system, a part of the Irishi sector^[1] in the New Territories portion of^[2] the Mid Rim. It was located on the Entralla Route hyperlane, which linked it to the Obredaan and Ord Tessebok systems,^[1] and it lay relatively close to the Outer Rim Territories planet Domgrin.^[6]

History

Gonmore was a part of the New Republic between 12 ABY and 13 ABY.^[1] It was believed to be the smuggler Talon Karrde's primary financial base for the Outer Rim Territories,^[5] and, by 22 ABY,^[7] his smuggling network maintained a sector clearinghouse there—the existence of which was known to the network's member Jerf Huxley and, according to him, Mara Jade Skywalker, Karrde's former^[4] second-in-command.^[8]

That year, Jade Skywalker met with Huxley at an Outer Rim cantina that was under the control of the latter's own smuggling group in order to notify him, on Karrde's behalf, that his organization's services would no longer be required due to Karrde gradually leaving the smuggling business. In response, Huxley—whom Jade Skywalker believed had suspected the coming of that news—demanded, while holding her at gunpoint, that she contact the clearinghouse on Gonmore and arrange for the transportation to him and his group of five hundred thousand credits in cash as a form of severance pay. Ultimately, however, Jade Skywalker, with the assistance of her husband, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, forced Huxley to let them leave unharmed, noting that she would instead transfer twenty thousand credits to his account as a thank you from Karrde for Huxley's decade of service to his organization.^[4]

Behind the scenes

Gonmore was first mentioned in the 2004 novel Survivor's Quest by Timothy Zahn.^[4] 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia established that Gonmore was situated in the Outer Rim Territories,^[5] a placement that was subsequently supported by the Appendix section of the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas—which placed the Gonmore system, and therefore Gonmore itself, in grid square K-6—but also contradicted by multiple maps in that same book that instead placed it in the Mid Rim.^[9]

The Appendix's Outer Rim claim was then repeated in the StarWars.com Online Companion to The Essential Atlas, which furthermore stated the system was a part of the Fath sector,^[3] but later refuted by the Online Companion feature "Essential Atlas Extra: Sectors of the Mid Rim," which once again placed the Gonmore system in the Mid Rim, this time as part of the Irishi sector.^[10] Since the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare eventually also repeated the Mid-Rim-and-Irishi-sector placement, this article treats it as correct.^[1]
