Giran was a Kadas'sa'Nikto from the planet Kintan who assisted crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure's beast handler Malakili. He hoped to snare a krayt dragon to pit against Jabba's rancor. In 4 ABY, when the rancor was killed by Jedi Luke Skywalker, Giran tried to comfort Malakili but couldn't hide his disappointment that the fight wouldn't happen. He was killed when Jabba's sail barge, the Khetanna, exploded near the Great Pit of Carkoon.
Biography
Giran was a Kadas'sa'Nikto native to the[1] Outer Rim planet[4] Kintan[1] whose job was assisting[3] Hutt crime lord[5] Jabba Desilijic Tiure's beast handler, Malakili, in his palace on the[3] planet[6] Tatooine.[3] He also served as a guard[7] and helped tend to Jabba's rancor with Malakili[8] in the chamber below[7] Jabba's throne room.[9] In 4 ABY,[10] Giran was present in the palace when Jedi Luke Skywalker arrived to rescue his friends from Jabba and was dropped into the chamber.[11]
Giran tried his best to comfort Malakili.
When Skywalker killed the Rancor by dropping a gate on its skull, the Nikto rushed out to survey the damages.[12] Giran went up to Skywalker and throttled the Jedi before Malakili pulled the pair apart.[11] He tried his best to comfort the crying Malakili but couldn't hide his disappointment that the rancor's death marked the end of his dream for the beast to fight a krayt dragon.[12] Giran and a Human guard then escorted Skywalker from the pit.[13] Afterwards, Jabba sentenced Skywalker and his allies Han Solo and Chewbacca to death by being fed to the sarlacc that lay in the Great Pit of Carkoon[11] in Tatooine's Dune Sea.[9] Giran rode on Jabba's sail barge,[14] The Khetanna,[15] when it ventured out into the execution spot.[14] At Carkoon, Skywalker and his allies were able to fight back against Jabba's forces and destroy the sail barge,[11] causing Giran's death.[14]
Personality and traits
Giran was loyal to Jabba and hoped to snare a krayt dragon and pit it against Jabba's rancor.[8] The Nikto had no affection for the rancor and only appreciated it for its primal strength and ferocity.[3] He weighted 81 kilograms, stood at 1.8 meters,[1] had green skin, and black eyes.[1]
Skills and abilities
Giran had slightly-above average speed,[3] running at fifteen kilometers per hour.[1] The Nikto also had slightly-above average strength, average intelligence and fighting ability, and below average diplomacy. He was not Force-sensitive.[3]
Equipment
Giran utilized a vibro-ax.[7] When he was present in the palace[11] in 4 ABY,[10] Giran wore a brown chest plate over a light-colored shirt, brown wrist bracers, a baggy cream-colored waist sash with pouches, baggy black pants, and brown shoes. He also wore a hood, and his pants were secured at his calves with brown rope.[7]
Behind the scenes
Giran first appeared in[11] the 1983[16] original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.[11] The character was portrayed by Colin Hunt.[17]
