The Gambling Hall was a curved room located on the second floor of the concessions concourses, a building in the Grand Arena in the city of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine. It ran along the outer wall of the building for atleast a quarter of its circumference and was adjacent to a viewing gallery located toward the center of the concourses. The hall included a large, open, tan floor with a slopped surface leading up to the outer wall where maroon pillars ran from floor to ceiling. Red and blue banners hung on the walls and ceiling and atleast one internal balcony overlooked the hall.[1]
The room was used for gambling on the podracers that took place at the arena, with betting controlled by the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure and Hutt-controlled managers "urging" visitors into the concourses for such activities. A large number of individuals were crowded in the room during the Boonta Eve Classic podrace[1] held in 32 BBY.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the Gambling Hall was mentioned in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations. It was part of material reprinted[1] from the 2000 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, which was written by Kristin Lund, illustrated by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen, and marked the first mention of the hall in the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3]
