The GR-45 medium transport was a type of cargo transport manufactured by Gallofree Yards, Inc., and shared similarities with the company's GR-75 medium transport.
Characteristics
The GR-45 medium transport was similar in design and appearance to the GR-75 medium transport also produced by Gallofree Yards, which saw use by the Rebel Alliance. Unlike the GR-75, the GR-45 was intended for civilian use, and contained a large cargo space that could be filled by teams of ASP-7 labor droids.[1]
History
A dilapidated GR-45 was parked illegally on Outer Curved Street in Mos Eisley on Tatooine[1] at the time of the arrival of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and their droids, to the spaceport city. Teams of ASP-7 labor droids were loading the vessel as Kenobi and Skywalker passed by in an X-34 landspeeder, seeking a pilot to transport them to Alderaan.[2] The ASPs were scheduled to have the GR-45's cargo-space loaded by suns-set.[1]
Behind the scenes
The GR-45 medium transport first appeared in scenes included in the 1997 Special Edition re-release of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, although it was not named until the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy by Dorling Kindersley.
