Template:Crawl ([[Talk:Template:Crawl|talk]] - history - links - logs)
This was tagged for speedy deletion as an unused template, but I'm wondering if we should put it to use instead. Should we use this on the film articles instead of the more generic {{Opening crawl}}? I think this would look a lot better and cleaner. —MJ— Council Chambers 21:37, December 27, 2013 (UTC)

- I just don't like the background and its general appearance. It could work if we were an amateur, newish fan site that began in the early 2000s and haven't changed since. We could do better than that. JangFett (Talk) 19:57, December 28, 2013 (UTC)
- In other words, our monobook CSS doesn't mesh well with the style of that template. Black background against a white background? Um. JangFett (Talk) 20:01, December 28, 2013 (UTC)
- It looks fine in the wikia skin; which is how the rest of the world sees the site anyway... Bo Shuda (talk) 16:09, December 29, 2013 (UTC)
- CSS 101: Do not have opposing colors clash with each other. Very amateurish and it looks plain ugly. If you have a lighter palette, then it's beneficial to stick with lighter colors and not add in darker colors. I could very well tell that this template will hurt the eyes simply by using the eye test. JangFett (Talk) 13:52, December 30, 2013 (UTC)

- Per Jang. I'm not really seeing the usefulness on this template. Winterz (talk) 20:12, December 28, 2013 (UTC)

- Very much per Jang. The last thing we want is a huge black thing sticking out in the middle of our pages. This is the sort of thing you see on websites from companies that get it in their mind that they'll attract more visitors if they can have more flashing lights on their sites. No, weird colors and flashing lights do not attract customers. On the contrary, they drive people away. When people view a webpage, they're looking for something smooth and gentle so that they can easily register it. That is especially true on a wiki where people are (normally) viewing it for a long period of time while reading the respective articles.—Cal Jedi

- A valid point has been made about style issues, and I'm hoping to move this closer to consensus, since a lack of consensus would effectively result in this template continuing to sit unused. —MJ— War Room 01:59, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Keep and use to replace {{Opening crawl}} on articles for the live-action films and any other media with an actual on-screen opening crawl
This would exclude TCW episode articles, which use {{Opening crawl}} for the voiceover during the "newsreel" but do not actually have a crawl. In other words, {{Opening crawl}} would stick around for those articles. —MJ— Council Chambers 21:37, December 27, 2013 (UTC)
- Could be cool. Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 21:39, December 27, 2013 (UTC)
- I understand the opposing argument relating to (CSS) style, but the crawl text just doesn't look right to me unless it's yellow on black. - Esjs(Talk) 05:38, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

- With the parameter to hide the star wars at the top as discussed below. Manoof (talk) 10:26, January 1, 2014 (UTC)
- If indeed it can be a nicer way to depict opening crawls, then this is the best solution as I see it. KEJ (talk) 21:45, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Discussion
- Why exactly was it used?! I'm a bit confused. Winterz (talk) 00:03, December 28, 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know if it ever was used, but it seems to me that it would be a nicer way to present the opening crawls than what we're using right now. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 00:52, December 28, 2013 (UTC)
- The only issue I see is that some opening crawls do not begin with the opening line: "Star Wars". Bo Shuda (talk) 10:57, December 28, 2013 (UTC)
- That can be easily solved by adding a parameter to the template to suppress the Star Wars logo on demand when needed. —MJ— Comlink 17:46, December 28, 2013 (UTC)
- Then I'd support its use for movies, television shows and video games definitely or wherever an animated opening crawl is used. Is this what is being proposed above? Bo Shuda (talk) 00:04, December 29, 2013 (UTC)
- Essentially yes, More specifically, the "keep" option above proposes to use it for any media that includes an opening crawl like what Episodes I–VI use. —MJ— Holocomm 06:58, December 29, 2013 (UTC)
- Ok. Aesthetically, maybe the template would look even better with rounded corners similar to {{Opening crawl}}. Bo Shuda (talk) 16:07, December 29, 2013 (UTC)
