TV spots (talk - history - links - logs)

In this thread, I officially ask you to support me in a crusade to delete all our articles for the Star Wars TV spots. All three of them...

  • Adventure (TV)
  • Forbidden Love
  • Tone poems

Frankly, I don't understand why they were created in the first place. A TV spot is a short preview clip for the advertising of the upcoming movie on television, often based on the theatrical trailers. But we don't have any articles about the trailers of Star Wars movies, and there are more than two dozens of them. There is simply no reason to describe the trailers, because they don't have any unique content: we don't have articles for the comic previews, book excepts, video game demos etc. I see no reason why the trailers should be different. And if we don't have articles on 3-minute trailers, we definitely don't need articles on 30-second short clips. Because if we somehow decide to keep articles for these TV spots, we would also have to create articles for all the rest of them - and that would be about 50 ! And then of course there is Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where technically every single preview clip for every single could be considered a TV spot. Please don't tell me you want to have articles for all of those too. MauserComlink 16:45, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

Delete all articles

  2. Delete all, though I can agree with keeping the tone ads if that's what the majority wants. But for now, kill all. Chack Jadson (Talk) 01:25, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Keep

The tone poems are not preview clips for The Phantom Menace to be shown on television. They were shown on television prior to the release of the film into theaters. I think they provide pertinent information and should be kept. Not to mention, they are all together in one article, not split up into articles for each tone poem. Finally, they don't detract from Wookieepedia in any way. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 16:57, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
  • Did I explain myself correctly? Perhaps my English failed me here - I obviously meant that the so-called TV spots are the way the movies are advertised on TV prior to the release in theaters, as you've stated. You can find a dozen of them on any self-respecting DVD, but I still don't get how exactly a compilation of scenes from the movie, some music and a voice-over suddenly becomes a product on its own. MauserComlink 17:16, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
    • Because these aren't just a standard movie preview with cut together scene slips from the film with dialogue from the film. These were specific ads with specific dialogue specially created and drafted to be relevant to the film and the characters portrayed in the ads. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 17:28, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

Discussion

Once this one is done, don't forget to purge the Category:TV Spots as well. And do not create any more vote options without a discussion beforehand, please. MauserComlink 16:45, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

  • I propose a new option to delete the first two but keep Tone poems per JMAS's last comment. I should also point out that the tone poems page is currently the source for the lead quote on the Darth Maul article—what will that be sourced to if we delete Tone poems? —Master Jonathan(Jedi Council Chambers) 17:45, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
    • The question is: why do we use a quote that never appeared in any finished product anyway. It is no more canon than a deleted scene never made its way into any adaptations. MauserComlink 17:50, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
      • I would counter that the Tone Poems themselves are a finished product. The quote at the top of Darth Mauls article was written for the character of Darth Maul and recorded by the same actor who provided the voice of Darth Maul. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 19:29, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
        • Just because Harrison Ford provided his voice for the trailer of TESB, it doesn't mean that the advertisement has any canonical value. Interesting to watch for us fans, sure, but treating the advertisement separately from the product it was made to promote? I still don't get why would anyone get that idea. MauserComlink 19:37, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
    • I second Jon's proposal; keep Tone poems but delete the others. Nayayen—TALK 16:07, January 28, 2010 (UTC)
      • I concur. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 16:10, January 28, 2010 (UTC)
  • If Mauser agrees to a third option of "Keep Tone poems and delete the others" then I'd vote for that. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 01:39, January 29, 2010 (UTC)
    • Alright, here yo go. Feel free to change votes. MauserComlink 02:46, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

While I don't want to see it deleted for the same reason I don't want the Tone Poems (and possibly the others, too) deleted, you may want to consider the future of the Vector Prime television commercial article. jSarek 12:04, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

  • Well, what are we going to do about the Vector Prime commercial? Chack Jadson (Talk) 14:49, February 6, 2010 (UTC)
    • Personally, I think merging it into both The New Jedi Order and The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime should be sufficient. I'll probably get to it soon. MauserComlink 16:03, February 6, 2010 (UTC)
