Ozone (talk - history - links - logs)

The article covers a completely mundane topic. Ozone (as described) is virtually the same as real-world ozone, and I think it does not warrant its own SW entry by a long shot. Compare to water. Even if you list water-rich worlds such as Mon Calamari this would not make an article about "Water" feasible in a dedicated SW wiki.

The links that go to ozone should probably be redirecte to the real wikipedia entry for ozone. Frabby 07:41, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

  • The first bit of the article says: "Ozone was a type of gas emitted by excess energy in the air, often caused by the firing of laser and blaster weapons."
My first question is: where do we cause this by firing blasters and laser in the real world?
The article also describes how a species had to adapt to not having any ozone on their planet. I feel this is worth an article because there are several in universe things that, to my knowledge, do not (or haven't) happened in the real world. The article should only describe those things and we shouldn't put every appearance of a planet with ozone in the appearances section. A link to Wikipedia could be provided to explain it all in more detail, but I feel we should keep this article to describe the things unique to the Star Wars Universe. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 07:57, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
    • But should that not rather be covered in the articles about the relevant causes, i.e. a mention in the Blaster article that firing one in an environment with oxygen typically produced ozone, or in the articles about the respecitve planets with a notably high/low ozone level? Another thing that prompted me to question the Ozone article is that it uses past tense. I know that is what Wookiepedia's manual of style suggests, but Ozone still exists in the present so should be described in present tense. That is, unless you dodge the issue by changing that first sentence to read "The firing of laser and blaster weapons often produced ozone" - in which case it becomes debatable if the article is really about Ozone, or rather about the firing of weapons... quod erat demonstrandum. • It describes what "causes" the gas to be "created," so it is relevant to Ozone. I just don't see how a short article describing things that are unique to the Star Wars Universe and an external link to Wikipedia in that article could "hurt" our wiki. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 08:40, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Real world elements and compounds are well-established in terms of deserving articles. See Category:Elements for a number of examples. - Lord Hydronium 08:52, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Same as above- this is sourced in Star Wars material, so my vote is to Keep NighthawkLeader 08:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Speedy keep - we have LOTS of articles on "earthly" topics, from elements (gold, iron, oxygen) to astrophysical phenomena (star, planet, black hole, nebula) to animals (dog, cat, horse) to body parts (limb, kidney, and, yes, the infamous breast). jSarek 10:01, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Speedy keep, per jSarek and tin. Also, "mundane"? So what if it's mundane? It's canonical, it's in-universe, and it's shown up in several sources. You'll also note that no where in the article did I make a real world connection (no "Ozone was a gas comprised of three oxygen molecules", as that's never been stated (to my knowledge).
