Old vandalism reporting stuff

I didn't realize anybody even knew we still had these until I found an old use of the template from early this month on a user page, that the blocking admin failed to remove. There's no reason to report vandals this way. Most will be caught by an admin patrolling recent changes or reported on IRC, and those that are reported on-wiki are best reported by editing Wookieepedia:Vandalism in progress directly, which will show up on watchlists (or on my dashboard), will be more obvious on recent changes, is less likely to provoke an angry response ("STOP VANDALIZING MY USER PAGE!!!11!!1!", etc.), and less likely to be abused by a troll. (I'm not aware of any instances of the last two occurring, but they are possible, and even if they don't happen, the first two mean that it's easier to admins to find the report and therefore are reason enough to do it that way.) Bottom line: this is a relic of 2006, and it shows.

  8. The funny thing is, I think we created these AFTER we created Wookieepedia:Vandalism in progress, and they were thought to be somehow superior to that page for some reason. I'm open to changing my vote if someone can not only remember what on Earth those reasons could be, but also convince me that we can get editors to actually use these things instead of the tried-and-true static page that everyone has been using successfully for years. jSarek (talk) 01:09, July 1, 2013 (UTC)
    After some digging, it appears that Sikon set these up as a test on a suggestion in IRC from WhiteBoy and Azizlight. The apparent purpose was to unclutter the WP:VIP page itself, which looked like this shortly before these were introduced. The current version of that page doesn't look anything like that (in fact, it's completely empty right now), so clearly we no longer need these, and it seems from the discussion I linked that no one was ever sure that the dynamic system was better. —MJ— War Room 03:30, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
