Braces (talk - history - links - logs)

We've heard calls for deleting all articles like this in the name of "we're not a dictionary" and detractors of that point of view ask for something significantly Star Wars-y that distingushes it from the real world. Braces do not have any different purpose. Until it's established that they were a cybernetic parasite subtly influencing Amee in her youth so that she'd grow to fall for every guy that crossed her path, it shouldn't have an article.

  3. yeah this seems like speculation, especially since it's not directly mentioned in any source. <-Omicron(Leave a message at the BEEP!) 01:25, August 21, 2012 (UTC)

  5. Let's get rid of this one. For one, how do we even know they're called braces? Does any source back that up? 501st dogma(talk) 21:44, August 23, 2012 (UTC)
  6. Actually, decided to change my mind after reading the BTS. Braces are not relevant to the universe whatsoever and its only appearance was kind of accidental, unless it makes another appearance. Winterz (talk) 16:04, August 28, 2012 (UTC)
  7. So now it's articles for anything that exists just because they exist? Okay. (Actually, do we even know those are braces and not some kind of decorative Naboo tooth wear? I think not.) Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 22:10, August 28, 2012 (UTC)

  8. Per Trayus. If those things are never called "braces" in canon, and we have never gotten any notion of what they're used for, it's speculation to say anything about them. For all we know, Aimee was a weirdo and the only person in the history of the Star Wars universe to wear these. Maybe she put them on as a lark to freak out Anakin. Who knows? It's all too speculative for my taste. ~SavageBOB sig 11:29, September 12, 2012 (UTC)

  1. Their existence in canon is good enough for me to keep and document for our readers. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:11, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  2. Actually, I think this is one case where it's important enough to note that they exist. No, we don't use nanobots, or tractor beams, or genetically engineered bacteria that reshape the gumline, or any exotic tech like you'd expect for a galaxy far, far away. We use plain old braces. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 18:38, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  3. Per Culator. (Though I do imagine the orthodontic plan of a destitute rube on Tatooine might differ from wealthier parts of the galaxy.} jSarek (talk) 06:13, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

  8. Blarg. While an inclusionist, I generally dislike hyperinclusionism. But in this case, they did appear on-screen, and it has relevant BTS information so I think it should stay. An article name change might be in order though, since they aren't actually identified as such at any point. — DigiFluid(Whine here) 13:14, August 25, 2012 (UTC)

  13. I looked at this at CVI and I say to keep it. Per Culator. If all goes well with certain plans, we may end up with more images of braces. Trak Nar Ramble on 22:54, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
  14. I also looked at this at CVI, and I also vote per Culator. I normally vote to delete these English dictionary articles, but these are notable simply by their existence in a universe where one would not expect to find them. —MJ— Comlink Friday, August 31, 2012, 02:04 UTC

  • So…what you're saying is that they're so unadelteratedly not Star Wars-y that they're important? :| NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 06:16, August 22, 2012 (UTC)
    • Perhaps better to say that, as the only established, canonical mode of dental corrective medicine we are aware of in the GFFA, it is notable regardless of (or perhaps due to) its degree of exoticism. The quasi-paradox is personally thrilling. DD97Which bear is best? 03:55, August 25, 2012 (UTC)
      • Where, where, where in canon does it say that those are a form of "dental corrective medicine"? Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 22:12, August 28, 2012 (UTC)
        • Per WP:ATT, "Editors may make straightforward mathematical calculations or logical deductions based on fully attributed data that neither change the significance of the data nor require additional assumptions beyond what is in the source. It should be possible for any reader without specialist knowledge to understand the deductions." Technically, that's not the issue. Anyone could see the deduction behind braces on the screen being braces analogous to real life. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 23:48, August 28, 2012 (UTC)
