Forums > Senate Hall archive > SH Archive/Technical note: Preloads
As you may notice, editing a nonexistent page now shows a dropdown box with a list of templates. When you select a template, a typical transclusion scenario is preloaded.
The template list is at Template:Stdpreloads. Each line is interpreted as always:
- Lines not beginning with "-- " do nothing. They're reserved for sections.
- If you select a line of the syntax "-- Templatename", the page refreshes and the contents of Template:Templatename/preload get preloaded. The previous content of the page is erased.
See Template:Character infobox/preload for an example.
Hope this helps. - Sikon 11:48, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Compatibility issues
- Unfortunately, this, like the edit summaries, does not work in Internet Explorer. Before somebody asks, I'm using IE7, but the edit sumaries didn't work in IE6 either. --Xwing328(Talk) 20:02, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ick, it messed up something else, too. At the bottom of the page, the "This is a minor edit" and "Watch this page" are rearranged in a bad way. They now look like this instead of side by side like before. --Xwing328(Talk) 20:26, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

- I've had that problem all day. -- I need a name (Complain here) 20:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- So that's what caused it, eh? I was wondering about that. -- Ozzel 20:28, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- The weird linebreaks are seen all around Wikia. They enabled HTML Tidy, or something. - Sikon 20:31, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oh. Any ideas why the dropdown lists won't show in IE though? --Xwing328(Talk) 20:38, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- No idea, honestly. I couldn't identify the problem. However, given IE's lousy standards support in general, it would probably be a good idea to migrate to a better browser altogether. - Sikon 06:16, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

IE
Fixed it for IE7. Not sure about IE6 at the moment, though. - Sikon 13:02, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- Awesome! I can check IE6 if you want when I go to lab next time. --Xwing328(Talk) 03:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
I just wanted to say great work on this. When I first noticed them I was delighted. They certainly save a lot of time. I've added the Droid infobox under the character list. --Eyrezer 00:38, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
