Hi there! Sometime ago, Master Jonathan created {{Double image}}, which pairs one or more related images that would prove too cumbersome if added one after the other individually. The original template, however, needlessly forbade the user from choosing a vertical or horizontal placement of the images, which prompted me to import from Wikipedia a more flexible, updated version of the template.
However, Cade voiced his concern that the template could deviate from our established image policy. The policy, though, doesn't forbid two images in a row, it forbids galleries, which last time I checked necessarily require <gallery> marks to qualify as such.
I would understand this concern if five random images were clumped together, but this does not need to be the case. We can agree to use it in cases where it is encyclopedically relevant to do so, as in the case of Jedi Credit (which shows front and back of a coin), and aesthetically more pleasant than thumbnailing two images consecutively.
On the right side I showcase the main differences between the old and new templates. Some community input on this whole issue would be helpful. Stake black msg 00:58, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
Discussion
- This is essentially a gallery, though it may not use the gallery tags. The {{Double image}} was created to fix a problem, while the multiple image template is there to add multiple images to an article—that's a gallery. Double image really shouldn't be used elsewhere other than the Jedi Credit article in my opinion. Cade

- Besides the obvious we-stole-from-Wikipedia look, the template should be reduced down to two images, instead of allowing users to insert up to 10. While I don't mind the vertical or horizontal options (it's pretty clever, actually), my main issue with this template is the "up to 10" images, as I said above. - Any collection of images for the sake of having a bunch of images qualifies as a "gallery". Whether or not the <gallery> tags are use is irrelevant. As for this template, my two primary objections to it are the complexity of the template code ({{Double image}} is far simpler) and the number of images supported (there should never be a reason for more than two on Wookieepedia). I like the idea of having the option for vertical or horizontal, but as that is the only useful benefit of the new template, it seems to be that it would be better to tweak {{Double image}} to support that rather than import an entirely new template. I will examine {{Double image}} shortly to see if I can set that up. —MJ— Council Chambers 01:30, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
{{Double image |1=right |2=Oasismomi.JPG |3=250 |4=Oasis mother bloodsack.jpg |6=Stacking vertically with {{Tl|Double image}} |8=Left image alt text |9=Right image alt text |stack=yes}} OK, here you go. {{Double image}} now supports vertical stacking. Let me know if you want the appearance tweaked. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 02:22, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
