Hey, all. Looking at Wookieepedia:Images#File_formats:
- "Animations and videos may be uploaded, with a Consensus track vote started within 24 hours of the upload for the community to decide whether the file should be kept. Animations and videos without a Consensus track vote after 24 hours will be deleted."
It seems to me that when adopting this rule in 2022 we overlooked a couple points.
Firstly, the abovementioned CT only concerned itself with the subject of uploading new animations/videos, but the de facto situation—despite the fact that the Image policy previously outright disallowed animations/videos—was that animated gif files already existed on the wiki by the time the new motion was passed. This situation still remains to this day - below you can see a gallery of all animated gif files currently (2024/05/10) on the site, sorted from newest to oldest. Note that since the adoption of the new animation rule we have had CT votes (1, 2, 3) on the usage of the four most recent gifs listed (ignoring Cade Calrayn's administrators box one :P), and that's it.
Does it seem sensible to grand-father all of these in? Or, alternately, should we just mass-delete them all (highly counterproductive, in my opinion) or mass-run them through a CT?
Secondly, notice that a few of the above show gif usages outside of the main namespace. Do we want to specify that this rule (i.e., the CT-in-24-hours-or-deletion one) applies to mainspace pages only? Imperators II(Talk) 11:53, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

- I'm largely in favour of grandfathering them all in Fan26 (Talk) 12:28, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- I'm also good with grandfathering and excluding user page etc. gifs from the 24-hour rule. Wok142 (talk) 17:03, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- Grandfather them in and allow user gifs because user images are already limited to three total, which includes gifs. ThrawnChiss7
