Hey all! Our intrepid NanoLuuke has raised a point here on whether it might not be a good idea to add a dedicated field to the {{Planet}} and {{System}} infoboxes for listing socio-cultural groups that originate there - like, say, Corellians, Naboo, Alderaanians, Keitumites, Sullorians, etc. Right now, the Planet infobox has the |demonym= field, which I suspect we'ŗe using inconsistently - sometimes to list purely a genitive form of the world's name, as "Gandeidan" on Gandeid IV, but other times also just linking to the abovementioned groups anyway. Any suggestions on addressing/fixing this? Imperators II(Talk) 10:44, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- I assume there's cases where the socio-cultural group name doesn't align with the denonym? If that's the case then there should definitely be a dedicated field so it can always be captured. Ayrehead02 (talk) 10:53, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- In the case of the Keitumites (which are responsible for me bringing this up), we only know them as a social group, and nothing identify the term as a demonym, which leave us with a missing information in the infobox. In the case of Naboo, Canon article infobox as it as a human (sub)-species, while Legends article infobox as it as a demonym, both are wrong, since 1) it's a social cultural-group, not a subspecies 2) it's not a demonym, since it's only referring to the human socio-cultural group, which excludes gungan, the other nabooian (correct demonym) main culture/species. - Update: this offers an (imperfect) view into the current usage of the demonym field. Imperators II(Talk) 10:59, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Imp for putting this up. So just a reminder, the field was added back in 2009 by Eyrezer to the Planet infobox, and subjected to a policy ruling in 2020, per a Mofference vote (you guessed it, proposed by Imperators ^^), making it an infobox exclusive subject. And just so we are clear on the common definition of demonym, per Merriam-Webster: "a word used to denote a person who inhabits or is native to a particular place". - Would support adding this as a field. Rsand 30 (talk) 14:39, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yea I think in general, denonym is just the genitive form. A socio-cultural group field would be a good idea. Wok142 (talk) 17:05, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

- Per above —spookywillowwtalk 21:19, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed, a dedicated field for specific social groups is the best way to present that info, rather than putting them under "demonym" or "species". Zed42 (talk) 22:13, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
