Hi all. Opening discussions on the Wookieepedia:User page and profile policy and the Wookieepedia:User image policy. I think they both have a lot of clutter and some snitchy rules that we can do away with.

My proposals:

  • Main user page policy (diff)
    • Remove unnecessary formatting/procedural stuff
    • Soften limits on fanfiction — as long as it's limited to only one page, pending the time and effort on dipping into users' fanfic, doing a word count, and then {{Msg-fanon}} is honestly a waste and rather not-nice. Forcing users to add the {{Tl|Fanon user page}} template is just unpleasant bureaucracy; we don't need to off-puttingly label fanon on user pages nor keep track of user pages that contain fanfiction. The only practical effect of folks adding to their fanfic is that it clogs up the Special:RecentChanges log, but the issue is better covered by the "excessive user page edits" provision. Kindly encourage users to use the Star Wars Fanon Wiki instead.
    • Remove point on hiding data — we're not a security agency.
  • User image policy (diff)
    • Update links
    • Remove point on filesize regulations — Fandom's our host, so we shouldn't be making constraints here.
    • Remove point on hiding data.
    • Remove point on using images on Wook for personal purposes — dual usage is a thing.
    • Modified "safe for work" point per main user page policy.
    • Merged similar points.

I also think someone who would check user images for the above violations could find better things to do :P. We might also want to reword the remaining four points, and look into whether we should be regulating user image "privileges" by the stated points.

After cleaning those up, I also think it would be a good idea to merge the user image policy into the main user page policy so that everything's in one place. OOM 224 (he/him) 08:15, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

  • I have just realised that we passed Forum:CT:User page policy revamp (checks notes) less than a week ago, with me myself archiving the CT. So, uh, consider this as a follow-up I guess? OOM 224 (he/him) 08:21, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

  • Hey, part twos are always good. Most of my stuff was heavier cleanup/styling, but a few older full-rules listed that've been removed here didn't really have a purpose, just got carried over. Nice work!—spookywillowwtalk 19:47, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
