Wanted to bring up Wookieepedia:Trivia primarily due to it being made in a 2007 Mofference and generally, due to how old it is, does not accurately reflect modern standard.

The policy is currently worded in several aspects in a way that suggests Trivia sections are common, and that they are (technically) allowed—even if discouraged—and seems to leave room for unreferenced ones to remain in some circumstances. Nowadays, we tend to either revert sections like these or immediately merge them into the article content if relevant.

I'd like to suggest merging this policy into the Wookieepedia:Layout Guide as a new section called "Trivia sections" wedged between "Article footer" and "Index Page," which would make it the sixth main section on that page. Proposed text could appear something like this (text reflected below):

*Lists of miscellaneous facts grouped into their own section as "Trivia," "Facts," "Miscellanea," "[Subject] in popular culture," "Other information," etc. should be avoided.
*Information in these sections that is relevant to the article's topic should be merged into the content of the article body and referenced appropriately.
*Entries that are speculative, factually incorrect, or qualify as [[Wookieepedia:Attribution#Original_research|original research]] should be removed.

Mainly because it doesn't seem significant enough to have its own policy anymore, and because several aspects of how information should be handled do not fall under modern precedent. We do create lists and tables sometimes, but usage of those is codified elsewhere and generally rarer in IU articles—and also not tied to "trivial" facts so to say, but rather properly referenced lists. The policy also says "This guideline does not suggest removing trivia sections" and "This guideline does not suggest avoiding lists in favor of prose" which I personally disagree with. Generally, any information that falls under the typical "trivial" banner can and should be prosified in most circumstances; so we can turn this into a tidy subsection of the LG and the original title serving as a redirect.—spookywillowwtalk 20:14, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

  • Absolutely. Fewer policy pages is better. No need for an individual policy on every little thing when a single policy can cover all the related topics. Master FredceriqueCommerce Guild(talk) (he/him) 16:26, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
