This thread is about a proposed update to our naming policy, specifically regarding comic series. Currently, we have them disambiguated by year, such as "Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (2020)", which works fine until we get something like Star Wars (Marvel Comics 1977), which could be confused with a great many things, namely A New Hope, of course. This is also an issue with the relaunch of The High Republic series, which will be confused with the multimedia series as whole. My idea for a CT is that we add the following sentence to WP:NP#Disambiguation (addition in bold):
- When two or more comic series share the same title, but began publication in different years, the year of each of the series' initial publication should be considered part of the series title, and included in a parenthetical descriptor (example: Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (2016) and Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (2020)). If a comic series name competes with a different piece of Star Wars media, include the publisher's name in the parenthetical disambiguator. (Example: Star Wars (Marvel Comics 1977), not Star Wars (1977), in order to avoid confusion with Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Star Wars (1977) would then become a disambiguation page.)
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. JediMasterMacaroni(Talk) 18:57, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

- Good idea, although you should not be using the {{Film}} template in the proposal since it's supposed to be used only in references. You also remind me that I forgot to vote against the proposal that led to that particular update to the naming policy. SilverSunbird (talk) 19:01, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- I wondered if you'd notice that, just me being lazy :P JediMasterMacaroni(Talk) 19:06, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Being even a little more specific in the titling can resolve any potential confusion, so I agree with the proposal Lewisr (talk) 19:03, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Not a bad idea. Three small things, though. 1) Perhaps this wording should be clear on the expectation that, in this example, "Star Wars (1977)" would be turned into a disambiguation page. 2) Shouldn't the full "Marvel Comics" be used instead of the shortened "Marvel"? 3) I'd recommend rephrasing the "which would be confused" into something more neutral, i.e., "in order to avoid confusion with" or something like that. - 1) Added 2) Good point, had just been going off what Tope had done previously 3) Sure. JediMasterMacaroni(Talk) 19:06, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Unless someone manage to find a really good argument against it, you have my vote. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 19:56, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me. OOM 224 16:43, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
