Have done some musing, looking to clean up some policy loopholes, standardize some marking/tagging procedures. The basis of the below is all on this draft workbench which also includes drafts of some of the templates proposed below (all of which look super similar to existing ones), and some extended rambly wording.

A TLDR summary:

  • Create {{FileVote}} - talk page usage; basically {{ImageVote}} for files that aren't static images—like gifs (example here, at bottom)
  • Create {{FileVoteNotice}} - attention field ({{Information}}, file pages; easier tracking/logging of what gifs have been approved and where (example here, at bottom)
  • WP:CON - small tweaks; an Imp wording tweak proposed on a prior SH, logging animation/video (gif) votes on CON, since image infobox votes/template votes aren't the only type of file votes onsite, so if those two types are there, may as well document them all.
  • WP:PROTECT (changes in bold) - "Files used in an Interactive Map approved via community consensus in a {{MapVote}} should be protected and marked with {{InteractiveMapImage}} to preserve the vote's chosen outcome."
  • Create {{InteractiveMapImage}} - attention field ({{Information}}, file pages; easier logging for images upload-protected by maps policy (due to a different dimension messing with coordinate-based markings, so per policy, we lock 'em after CT) — (example here, at bottom)
  • Update admin how-to guide accordingly (with the templates, saying to use them).
  • Accompanying tracking categories for the new templates

Overall, essentially just a brief but tangentially related list of things...in the never-ending quest of trying to streamline policies, make sure they connect with each other well, and get documented properly. Would appreciate some thoughts; maybe there's even more to add to fix, to a subvote. In this case though; it functionally changes very of how we do things, or actual policy; moreso ironing out the documentation of it (since these decisions, file votes, are almost never documented in actual policy pages, so they're only findable via Wookieepedia:Policy and consensus updates or by visiting an affected page atm.—spookywillowwtalk 07:25, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

  • Seems good to me. NanoLuukeCloning Facility 07:39, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Good cleanup. Imperators II(Talk) 08:33, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Minor qualm: if the new Animation and video consensus votes section uses "main namespace," then despite being an accurate term, it would seem to be a different thing from an "article" as used in the preceding Image consensus votes section. If possible, I think it'd be good if the policy uses the simpler term instead since namespaces as a concept is confusing for newer users. OOM 224 09:39, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
    • I have just realised that the wording's from WP:F, and we voted for keeping it to main namespace specifically. Perhaps simply linking it to Wookieepedia:Glossary#M would be better? OOM 224 17:29, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
      • Have added in the pipelink. But yeah; the wording is ripped from there; since the main namespace wording is from that other recent-ish vote, so changing that is probably its whole separate issue so kept the same for now. But then later if we change WP:F's wording then I'd imagine, if this passes, the copied WP:CON wording would follow.—spookywillowwtalk 20:59, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
