With the recent addition of several vip's to our discord server, the time has come to update the rules. My proposed addition is simple, and I think relatively clear. I am proposing we add the following to our Discord rules;
9. Regarding VIPs. Anyone with the VIP role (indicated by the VIP role on their Discord profile and denoted by a red name) is not to be pinged outside of using the reply function if they are taking part in a conversation, or sent a friend request or dm for any reason without their express consent. Please be respectful and do not ask for insider information, as not only are they not at liberty to discuss, this may lead to them leaving. Do not share fan works or suggestions with them, as in some cases they are prohibited from accepting it. Supreme Emperor Holocomm 00:34, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

- I'm really excited by this new endeavor of yours Sup, and I'm all for providing a safe environment to interract with VIPs. However, I expect strong moderation to enforce this. Like I said before, this new rule should be reminded on a few occasion (such as introducing a new VIP on the server) to make sure that veteran editors and newcommers keep themselves in check. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 09:23, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

- To be clear, I think instead of "pinged" it should say "tagged (either directly or replying to a specific comment), sent a direct message" Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 00:43, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- This is a bit tricky for me. The "reply" function gives the option to do so without "pinging" or notifying someone. Would that use be permissible since it could be a way to reference or add to a discussion? Again, in that case, you wouldn't be pinging or notifying the VIP. But this is also a slippery slope. From what I can see, there's no way to tell whether the user who sent a message with a reply function did or did not have the notification option toggled. This makes it hard to police. Dentface (talk) 01:25, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- I opted for ping here as that's the proper terminology for discord. As far as replying, that is fine, as they are directly involved in the conversation. By pinging, I mean pinging outside of a conversation. I'll make a small adjustment to it, and let Yakov know about the change as he's already voted. - I think "fan fic" should also say "fan works" to cover videos and artworks as well Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 00:43, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- Changed to fan works, thanks for the feedback! Supreme Emperor Holocomm 02:06, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- I support this but I feel like the wording needs to be a bit more fleshed out. Also, what exactly is a VIP, and is that a term we should really throw that term around rather than something more formal. I don't know, I'm not a big fan of using VIP, makes me feel like they're a Kardashian lol and I don't know if they would like to be called a VIP when they just see themselves as an ordinary author or something --Vitus InfinitusTalk 01:17, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- As noted, VIP denotes someone with the "VIP" role, similar to how staff have the "staff" role, shown by clicking their name in discord, though I've added a note to clarify that. Supreme Emperor Holocomm 02:06, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- But what exactly constitutes a "VIP"? Is it just a well-known Lucasfilm employee, a Star Wars fandom personality, a big YouTuber, etc? I'd prefer to more properly define this. --Vitus InfinitusTalk 18:09, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- See my comment below. Essentially, we can't draw black and white lines because it's gauged according to risk, not any specific status. MasterFred

- I share some of Vitus' sentiments about the whole VIP name but I also can't think of anything better. That being said, I would also like to know exactly what kinds of people these "VIPs" are/will be? Of the people I recognize so far, they are mostly authors, but I would like to know what other kinds of people might start getting invited to the server to occupy this role? Wok142 (talk) 08:35, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- The only people I've spoken to so far are authors, voice actors and composers, plus two very large Star Wars youtubers. That being said, the exact definition of who may or may not join isn't particularly relevant to rules surrounding the "VIP" role itself. Supreme Emperor Holocomm 20:39, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- VIPs are simply any persons that the admin team deems popular enough or likely to carry confidential information enough to warrant the protection. That's pretty much all Lucasfilm employees and the most popular names in the fandom. MasterFred

- Yea I know my question wasn't exactly specific to approving the rules, I just thought this might be a good place to ask about general information surrounding the whole VIP thing since at least to my knowledge, no real information besides "this is going on" was really shared (it's very possible it was talked about on Discord and I missed it, but from my point of view it just sort of started happening so I was just curious to hear some more specifics). Thanks for the responses both of you. Wok142 (talk) 23:46, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- No worries! Glad we could answer satisfactorily. MasterFred
