The result of the debate was adopt the changes. Graestan(Talk) 19:11, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, here's a simple one. I propose to change this line in Wookieepedia:Naming policy#Lowercase second and subsequent words:
Also, the template {{Title}} can be used to display the article's name with the first letter in lowercase.
to
Also, the magic word
{{DISPLAYTITLE:name}}can be used to display the article's name with the first letter in lowercase. (DISPLAYTITLE has advantages over {{Title}} in that the former is a native MediaWiki function as opposed to a JavaScript hack, takes effect as soon as the page comes up instead of after it finishes loading, and also works in your browser's title bar and history.)
The reasons for the change are laid out in the proposed wording. Some examples of pages that already use DISPLAYTITLE in this manner are k'Jtari, iPhone, zZip Product Concepts Limited, and dreams & visions press. Contrast those to t'landa Til, which still uses {{Title}} to achieve that effect. Note on t'landa Til, unless you have a very fast connection, the article title at the top of the page will first appear as "T'landa Til", then change to the lowercase form after the page completes loading; also, the title bar of your browser still displays the uppercase form, as does the history. On iPhone (for example), the title displays in its proper lowercase form from the moment the page first displays, and it also displays as lowercase in your browser's title bar and history.
Some may ask, "Well, if DISPLAYTITLE is so much better than {{Title}}, then why not just get rid of {{Title}} entirely?" The answer is that DISPLAYTITLE does not support ''italics markup'' in the MediaWiki version (1.15) that we are currently using. Once we get upgraded to 1.16, that version will support italics markup in DISPLAYTITLE. Until then, we have to live with {{Title}}. - Yes, and I'm all for "upgrading" all uses of Title to DISPLAYTITLE once we move to 1.16. —Xwing328(Talk) 02:15, November 25, 2010 (UTC)
- This is what we do over at LifeMusic Wiki with tobyMac, dc Talk, lowercasepeople records, and others. Works better IMO. MasterFred

- I like this. Sounds good, Master Jonathon. --Eyrezer 06:59, November 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Sounds good, although I'll mention that DISPLAYTITLE seems to have no effect on the title bar of my Mac machine running Safari. ~ SavageBob 07:25, November 25, 2010 (UTC)

(Complain) 04:42, November 26, 2010 (UTC) - Nice catch, MJ. I always wondered if there was a way to make a lowercase title appear immediately instead of having to wait for the page to finish loading. QuiGonJinn

- I don't suppose there is any policy in place about allows the use of the title template to eliminate descriptors, is there? For example, the changing the title on Broadside (clone trooper) to read just "Broadside". SinisterSamurai 17:29, November 27, 2010 (UTC)
- No, policy is against it. -- I need a name (Complain here) 17:37, November 27, 2010 (UTC)

Is there a way of seeing which pages use DISPLAYTITLE? -- I need a name (Complain here) 11:53, November 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Not as far as I know, since it's a magic word, not a template. 1358 (Talk) 14:01, November 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Then I can't vote in favour of using it if there's no easy way to track its usage. -- I need a name (Complain here) 17:37, November 27, 2010 (UTC)
Anyone have an idea when Wikia's upgrading to MediaWiki version 1.16? I'd prefer to change all instances of {{title}} at the same time. 1358 (Talk) 17:39, November 27, 2010 (UTC)
- Last news I heard was that Wikia wouldn't be pushing out 1.16 until after the new year. Grunny (talk) 05:49, November 28, 2010 (UTC)
I've tried to use DISPLAYTITLE a few times and when I did, I would use it exactly how I've seen it used. But each time I made my edit, it didn't work. Thus, I'd revert back to plain old Title. Is it Firefox's fault? Am I doing something wrong? Do I gotta update Java yet again? It works when I see Master Johnathon using it. I must be doing something wrong, then. Until I find out what it is, then I'm not supporting the change. It'd screw over my bot edits. Trak Nar Ramble on 08:01, December 3, 2010 (UTC) Nevermind. Misread it.
