I think there should be a rule to use in titles (unless when it's specifically determined). Titles of books, movies, or games usually have a subtitle, like:

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Star Wars Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader

Normally, 'Star Wars' is separated from the rest of the title in italic, but since the Wiki writes the whole title in italic on articles, there is nothing separating the brand 'Star Wars' from the rest of the title. Sometimes, titles are found without any type of ponctuation, or use the colon twice (which is not very correct, gramatically). I suggest that we use the colon to separate the brand 'Star Wars' from the title, and use a dash to seperate the title from the subtitle. Using the examples above, it should stay like this:

Star Wars: Jedi Knight — Jedi Academy

Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace

Star Wars: Dark Lord — Rise of Darth Vader

Or when there is no subtitle, just use the colon:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

  15. I would only note that making people use M-dashes in all those titles might complicate finding those articles. I don't know how to type an M-dash into a search. Taral, Dark Lord of the Sith 13:56, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

Comment 1: this proposal goes against how the publisher itself lists titles: Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan and Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Ascension are two recent examples. Comment 2: the proposal is not internally consistent, as it specifies using a dash between title parts, but uses a hyphen in its examples. Asithol 01:36, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Those who voted against the proposal — how exactly is what we do now fine or perfect? There is no rule at all. Some even allow two colons on the title when officially there is only one. Just take the Jedi Academy example. The official title is:

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

The title on the article is:

Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

  • I don't believe the phrase "unless when it's specifically determined" effectively communicates the concept "unless the work's publisher specifies the title's punctuation." And honestly, when is the publisher not going to specify it? We should always be using the official title, including its punctuation, not creating rules to craft our own variants. If there are entries where Wookieepedia's punctuation does not match the publisher's (such as your Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy example), those entries should be fixed.         • I'm not talking about the logo, but the written title on press releases and such. In the title of many products, 'Star Wars' as a brand is in italic, and there is no colon between it and the rest of the title (this usually happens when there is a subtitle). For example:

— Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (one title, uses colon)

— Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition (Star Wars is in italic, the colon separates the title from the subtitle)

    • The titles of works are always in full italics. That's a rule of English and it supercedes common press release procedures like italicizing the series name and not the actual title. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 10:09, December 28, 2011 (UTC)
