I would like to propose several amendments to Wookieepedia:Naming policy that I believe are due to be standardized. They will take place in multiple votes, which I now present below. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk)

Vote 1: Disambiguation
This section is an archive of a community-wide discussion. This section is no longer live. Further comments should be made in open discussion area or a new section rather than here so that this section is preserved as a historic record. The result of the debate was Support adding disambiguation section. Exiled Jedi (Greetings) 01:45, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
This will create a new subsection under "General rules" called "Disambiguation" with multiple points:
Articles with identical competing titles should typically be disambiguated via a parenthetical descriptor, and the central title should then become a disambiguation page (example: Dono serves as a disambiguation page for Dono (Onderonian) and Dono (Squib)). The following exceptions apply:
- Major subjects shall be granted precedence over lesser-known subjects (example: Battle of Hoth, Executor), and disambiguation pages may be created from there as necessary (example: Battle of Hoth (disambiguation), Executor (disambiguation)).
- Article subjects with officially-confirmed titles shall be granted precedence over conjectural titles (example: Battle of Sagma and Battle of Sagma (Galactic Civil War)).
- Genuinely-named characters shall be granted precedence over impostors or other aliases (example: Odan and Odan (impostor)).
- Species shall be granted precedence over other subjects, such as characters and starships (example: Zeer and Zeer (clone trooper)/Zeer (criminal)).
Article titles shall avoid the parenthetical descriptor unless there is another article subject with an identical competing title.

I'd like to vote for this but I have a quibble:
- "Article subjects with canonically-confirmed titles"
Now that there's a Canon/Legends distinction, I think you should remove the word "canonically" from that, since this applies to both Canon and Legends. Maybe "officially-confirmed titles" instead? - Brandon Rhea(talk) 23:30, October 6, 2014 (UTC)
- Done. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 23:36, October 6, 2014 (UTC)
Vote 2: Real-world people
This section is an archive of a community-wide discussion. This section is no longer live. Further comments should be made in open discussion area or a new section rather than here so that this section is preserved as a historic record. The result of the debate was Support changes to real-world people subsection. Exiled Jedi (Greetings) 01:45, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
This will replace the second sentence of the first paragraph of the "Real-world people" subsection:
Likewise, title all real-world actors, artists, crew members, production people, etc., according to their actual credited name in a Star Wars work(s) (example: Billy Dee Williams instead of William December Williams). If a real-world person is credited as two different names between multiple Star Wars works, use the most recent credited name and turn the alternate name into a redirect (example: Steve Blum instead of Steven Jay Blum).

Vote 3: Canon and Legends
This will add a new sentence to the "Canon and Legends" subsection (note: the intention here is for this to apply as long as we continue to grant precedence to Legends over Canon):
Redirects that apply to both Canon and Legends versions of an article subject will redirect to the Legends version by default (example: Tarkin will redirect to Wilhuff Tarkin, not Wilhuff Tarkin/Canon).

- In the near future, when Wookieepedia switches from Legends as default to Canon as default, the redirects wouldn't have to be changed: "Grand Moff Tarkin" will redirect to "Wilhuff Tarkin" whether that article is Canon or Legends. Only the policy would need adjustment. —Silly Dan (talk) 17:23, October 7, 2014 (UTC)
- I've thought about this and arrived at the conclusion that this doesn't make any sense as long as Legends is the default. Which is a different question... 1358 (Talk) 09:54, October 10, 2014 (UTC)
- Until we start actively switching to canon as the site-wide default, this is the way to go. CC7567 (talk) 20:48, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

- I had to give this one a bit of thought. Although page titles are still giving preference to Legends (i.e. Luke Skywalker is the Legends page), I think it's time we started thinking about moving away from that now that it's been almost 6 months. Whether we actually start moving things or have some sort of better-defined plan for the future, I think we need to start the process in some form. I'm concerned that we'll continue to drag that out because of the strong Legends preferences on Wookieepedia and the understandable reluctance to make the change. That dragging out is especially true if we add more rules that give preference to Legends. At any rate, I'm going to vote oppose here because I think, given that Canon is the official Star Wars story and we're here to objectively document information, redirects like Tarkin should go to Canon page when and wherever it's relevant. Consider Spark of Rebellion, for instance. Tarkin was mentioned twice in that episode. If you're new to Star Wars, it was a bit intriguing the way he was mentioned. It didn't say "Wilhuff Tarkin" in the episode, so if someone's coming along to search Tarkin, they should first be taken to the page that is not going to have Legends information. I'm sure I'll be in the very small minority here, but this is where I stand at this point in the Canon/Legends process. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 23:39, October 6, 2014 (UTC)
- I also think we're at that point. Corellian Premier

I feel pretty strongly about this one. If Star Wars publishing continues with the vigor it has for the past several decades (which it very likely will with the new movies and whatall), more visitors will come to this site specifically to fine information on topics appearing in new media. Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 01:58, October 7, 2014 (UTC)(Vote struck, reason: Per policy: Fewer than 50 mainspace edits over last six months -- Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 02:05, October 7, 2014 (UTC))
- Per Brandon. With Rebels now underway, readers will be looking for canon articles much more frequently, and we need to start pushing toward the switch to canon-as-default. Making another rule that favors Legends over canon hinders that and is a step in the wrong direction. —MJ— Comlink 04:41, October 7, 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with Brandon. There's no point in delaying the inevitable and misleading readers. Alexrd (talk) 21:06, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

The result of the debate was Support creating characters subsection. Exiled Jedi (Greetings) 01:45, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
This will effectively create a new subsection titled "Characters" under "Specific rules." Already-existing subsections "Clone troopers" and "Twi'leks" will be merged under this new subsection, and a third section titled "Unidentified characters" will be created:
Conjecturally-titled character articles shall use "Unidentified" at the beginning of the title unless a title uses a possessive or relationship (example: Judder Page's father, Meetra Surik's Jedi Master).
