So, after some discussion, it's been proposed that the overarching lines, or "themes", of LEGO sets receive articles. As this could be seen as opening the door to articles on individual sets, this CT will add a clause to the notability policy regarding toys and toy lines.

Toys such as action figures and LEGOs should not receive articles for individual figures or sets, but should instead be documented in articles for individual toy lines. These toy lines should be listed in the Sources section of in-universe articles. Whereas traditional toy lines should be listed in Sources list by action figures/vehicles/playset, etc., LEGO sets should only be listed by overall theme.

This does a number of things: it codifies our implied policy to not permit articles on individual toys and LEGO sets, and it allows us to treat LEGO sets as official sources of canon information. For example, the recent Rebels sets were the first mentions and visual depictions of several Rebels characters, and the Liberator-class starfighter was first named the Talon strike fighter by its LEGO set before a later source established the class. However, as there's a big possibility that listing the sets could get out of hand for articles like Luke and clone troopers, it's best not to list them all.

As Cade points out in the proposal, this has become a necessity with the recent Rebels characters, most of whom were first mentioned and pictured in the LEGO Rebels set, so our Sources lists are incomplete without listing these.   • I assume from the above that designation of sets will fall based on what is featured in that set, rather than the release run, which usually are distinguished by the packaging (new released ones have vader reaching out from top right corner, previous ones included yoda top right corner or darth maul top right corner). I have three questions on how to distinguishing sets:
    • one set that falls in multiple categories (such as 75019 AT-TE which obviously appeared in the clone wars tv series, movie and revenge of the sith)
    • multiple sets that depict the same thing (there are off the top of my head about 6 different x-wing sets that have been released, from ultimate collector series down to miniature sets)
    • Sets that are generic X vs Y that have no resemblance to anything in any other form (clone vs droids, rebels vs stormtroopers, sith vs republic troopers)

With the rebels sets coming, i expect they may redo some of the classic trilogy sets, meaning even more overlap. Other than that i think it'll be great! Manoof (talk) 05:30, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

    • For simplicity, it's best to keep them grouped under the original subthemes. The battle packs that you're talking about all easily fall under the themes - the clones is TCW, rebels is Classic, and the Sith/Republic troopers is EU. Multiple sets in the same subtheme would be listed only as the subtheme, and sets like the AT-TE—which was originally released as part of Episode II and later re-released in TCW—should list both of the subthemes. LEGO changes the character at the top of the box every so often, but these are the original themes. Cade GalacticRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit Calrayn 05:08, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
  • I have a question that is kind of an extension on Manoof's question. First off, I'm assuming that we are categorizing this according to topic, instead of doing it according to set-type or real life release date. For example, a set about the Duel of the Fates would go into the LEGO Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace category, even if the set was released in 2013. Is that correct? If so, then I have some confusion in regards to the Ultimate Collector's Edition. The rest of the articles are related to a topic, such as Rebels, TCW, or one of the movies. However, the Ultimate Collector's Edition can have sets from any time period or topic. Since the generically titled LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector's Edition does not specify a topic, would we have to list both articles in the Sources?—Cal JediInfinite Empire (Personal Comm Channel) 00:42, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
    • You're correct about the duel, though UCS is a special case. UCS is a overarching series that isn't all Star Wars (there's a Batman one too) that crosses into multiple subthemes, and includes some technical data about the ships. So, X-wing would list both the Classic (as there's been multiple X-wing sets) and then also Ultimate Collector's Series, which has a little plaque with dimensions and info about the ship.
