In the original CT thread on SWTOR Light/Dark choices, the decision to have the faction determine the outcome of any particular decision was made. This was a general assumption created for eight player characters, four Republics making all light side choices and four Empires making all dark side choices. The Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion rolls all player characters into The Commander, and a new faction, the seemingly morally-neutral Eternal Alliance, is created. For the past three years all articles involving content KOTFE-onward have made vague assumptions that the light side choices were chosen (e.g. we have the character Koth Vortena stay with the Alliance because the Outlander doesn't make any (or enough, as it takes all three AFAIK) of the sadistic decisions necessary to drive him and a couple others away. The game's most recent update, Jedi Under Siege, has kinda split things back up, because while The Commander is still a single character in charge of one Alliance, the update lets the story diverge if you side with the Empire or the Republic. As discussed here, vague generalizations will continue to be the norm where required, while it is agreed that eventually another decision will have to be reached.

If all of that isn't enough (so sorry), the character of the Outlander has existed, albeit unnamed, since Shadow of Revan, since they were present on Rishi and Yavin before the events of KOTFE. From what I know, each of the eight player classes has its own mission on Rishii that seemingly confirms the character was involved with the Yavin Coalition somehow.

So I'm proposing this:

  • Where applicable, all articles pertaining to the character The Commander assume light side decisions only, as this has usually been the norm in games.
    1. This is only true for events that are true for all player classes and not specific to, say, just The Barsen'thor or Darth Nox or Cipher Nine. The article for the Outlander will reference them doing something on Rishi related to their backstory or something like that, while the eight player character articles retain the little bit about their respective missions. Certain recruiting missions for the alliance often involve old companions-for seven player classes, the Outlander just recruits them in some form or another, while whichever character they worked for before KOTFE has some dialogue with them. For these the light side choice is still canon regardless of player class.
    2. This is true for the main story chapters of Knights of the Fallen Empire and Knights of the Eternal Throne.
    3. This only covers up to 5.9, the Nathema Conspiracy storyline, as this is the last bit of story before the big Republic/Empire choice that significantly complicates matters. Generalizations for articles covering morally neutral choices such as the War on Iokath will continue to use generalizations, while 5.10 and all subsequent content will essentially be dealt with once we come to the figurative bridge we have to cross.
    4. As was the norm before, articles will use the LS assumption gaming tag and cover alternate choices and their results in the BtS section. This is already done on some, but a degree of standardization is necessary.
