The result of the debate was Move more detailed temp page to main article. —Silly Dan (talk) 05:14, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I meant to do this before I left for the holidays and let everyone argue it out while I was away, but here goes anyway:
We have two versions of the Imperial insignia page: Rank insignia of the Galactic Empire and [[Rank Insignia of the Galactic Empire/temp]]. It's high time we picked one and stuck with it: it's been like this for months.
Both pages have problems: the first version is short, contains a good deal of conjecture, and is as far as I can tell incomplete.
The second version is impressively long and details, but some sections are still marked as "needing expansion", while others seem to be written in the style of a persuasive essay rather than a factual summary. There's also one fanonical assumption I don't like, namely the identification of the six films as a cache of video files R2-D2 gave the Whills, but that can be edited out fairly cleanly.
Which do you prefer?
Contents
Rank insignia of the Galactic Empire
This would mean that the current main article would be the focus of the edits, and the temp page would be moved out of the article space and/or deleted.
Rank Insignia of the Galactic Empire/temp
This would move the temp page over top of the current article, and focus our editing there.

- Obviously the larger of the two. Still uses all images for ranks and then some. -- Riffsyphon1024 08:24, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

- Why would we not use temp? Chack Jadson 01:12, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I like the temp better, but there are still serious problems with it. It goes back and forth from reading like an encyclopedic entry to an essay. It also jumps in an out of universe. I'd almost suggest in addition to serious cleanup/rewrite the possibility of splitting this into two articles, one with the very little absolute undisputed canon and one with additonal information and Analysis/Conclusions/Conjecture/Questions etc. Just my opinion, which is why I'm not voting on this one. --Wildyoda-talk-contribs-
06:06, 11 January 2007 (UTC) - I like the new one, but I do not like the mixing of IU/OOU. If we need a different article for the OOU discrepencies (outlining specific sources that where they conflict), that's fine, but I don't like mentioning the Imperial Sourcebook in a subtitle. — SparqMan Talk 17:55, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, that whole section seems a little iffy but otherwise it's better. Green Tentacle (Talk) 18:45, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the Imperial Sourcebook *is* an in-universe document, correctly described in the article as produced by the Alliance; it was referred to by name several times by Major Viran Qol of Alliance Special Forces in "Imperial Garrisons," from Star Wars Adventure Journal 12.—Unsigned comment by JSarek (talk • contribs)

A [[Wookieepedia:Votes for deletion/Rank insignia of the Galactic Empire|VFD]] page was started which essentially duplicated this CT thread: it had four votes for merging the two versions, but it's unclear which version the voters wanted to be the basis of the final page. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:16, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
New Comment
As the Ewok heavily responsible for the Temp version, I just want to confirm what jSarek said. Except for "Behind the scenes", the page is written in-universe; anything referred to directly, like The Imperial Sourcebook, exists as in-universe text. There is a difficulty where I had to discuss inconsistencies in the comics (Tavira's insignia in The Warrior Princess come to mind) but when I do that, I never refer directly to the "real-world" framing device. If this still bothers people, we can probably consensus-track or talk-page it? It's not too hard to change. --McEwok 13:43, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- I honestly think there may never BE an in-universe explanation. The simple truth is probably that the rank insignia were thrown together at random by the costumers. ZeldaTheSwordsman 19:09, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
